NEWBERRY – Students from Gallman, Boundary, Newberry, and Reuben elementary schools and Newberry Academy were recognized May 17 at the Newberry Opera House as part of the City of Newberry’s Academic All-Star Night.

Each student was recognized on stage with a certificate and along with their families were treated to a picnic dinner in Memorial Park catered by Sonic of Newberry.

Academic All-Stars were chosen by their elementary school for having been on the honor roll most or all of the academic year.

“You’ve worked to be the top students in your class and school,” Mayor Foster Senn told the students.

Senn told students that if they stayed on this path they would have all kinds of opportunities when they get older including being nurses, doctors, pilots, policemen, veterinarians, firefighters, singers, artists and more. He encouraged them to continue reading and working hard during their summer vacations.

“Keep doing what you’re doing and dream big,” Senn said. “We’re very proud of you.”
