NEWBERRY — Newberry County Water and Sewer Authority Manager Brent Richardson presented to the Board of Directors the monthly Construction and Operation report during last week’s meeting.

Richardson said the Lake Murray Water Treatment Plant is running great. Raw water turbidity is 3.4 NTU, slightly higher than last month, settled water turbidity is 0.16 NTU and combined filter turbidity is 0.03 NTU. LMWTP’s Running Annual Average TOC Removal Ratio is in compliance and Locational Running Annual Averages at all HAA and TTHM sample sites are in compliance. Laboratory construction will be completed by the end of August 2017.

“Laboratory construction is moving along really good. The only thing that may hold us up would be the delivery and installing the lab cabinets. Those are kind of a specialty item and it takes them a while to get here,” said Richardson.

Richardson reported that Water Distribution had another good month with only one minor main line break at West P. Johnston Road. A new water service was installed and several large meter vaults were updated/repaired.

The Macedonia Church Road Line Relocation Project is coming along. Richardson said that DOT is close to finishing the property acquisition.

“When they come in there and do the clearing and grubbing, they are supposed to give a 90 day window upon completion of the grubbing just for utility relocation. When the contractor leaves, we’ll have 90 days to go in there and do what we have to do,” said Richardson.

Richardson had nothing new to report on the Little Mountain Force Main Extension. This project provides sewer service to the new dentist office near the intersection of West Church Street and North Mill Street. SCDHEC issued the Permit to Operate on March 3, 2017.

Cannons Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility is continuing to run well. Richardson said that they have encountered problems with pump stations, but repairs will be made.

NCWSA’s wastewater collection department reported no main line breaks. A 29 Hp pump (Jalapa Road PS) remains at the repair shop. A 115 Hp pump (DeWalt Creek PS) will be removed and evaluated at the repair shop. Georgia Pacific PS improvements are scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2017 and no new sewer lines were installed.

NCWSA Assistant Manager Daniel Quattlebaum presented the monthly Financial Report.

For April, Quattlebaum reported that NCWSA brought in $247,305 in water revenue against $217,993 in water expenses, with a positive result of $29,312 for the month.

“Revenue is nicely ahead of budget projection and we’re really starting to see some benefit from our meter replacement. We’ve seen it all along, but we’re getting some of these big meters done now and things are really starting to impact that revenue in terms of metering,” said Quattlebaum.

In regards to sewer revenue for April, brought in a total of $78,026 against a sewer expense of $74,932, with a result of $3,094 for the month.

Admin. revenue came in at $7,900 for the month, which has elevated this year due to assistance received from FEMA.

For the month of April, the NCWSA saw a total of grand total of $40,320 with a current YTD total of $260,235.

Noteworthy for this period is the $25,000 purchase of a water service truck.
