NEWBERRY — In conjunction with The City’s annual Irish Fling, downtown merchants will be putting a little spring in their step by hosting their annual Spring Open House, held March 16-19 in Downtown Newberry.

To help the community plan out their stops downtown, brochures will be handed out with store hours along with the specials, discounts and drawings that each shop or restaurant will be offering.

“We usually have a pretty good turn out. We’re prepared for the same results as out Holiday Open House. I think this is just a way to help support downtown and it also encourages the businesses and brings out people from everywhere, whether it’s from South Carolina or out of state,” said Meri Ellen Ringer, The Gallery owner.

The Gallery will also be offering their own sales, including sales on jewelry and home decor as well as jam and cheese pairing and gourmet food and tea sampling.

“When people come out, they feel like they made the effort to come out. This is a special event so we try to do something a little more special than we normally do. It’ll be interesting to see how many people turn out this year. Getting the word out there helps us, it helps The City, it helps the businesses. It helps everybody, really,” said Ringer.

Ringer also said that by having events like the Spring Open House and the Irish Fling, it helps to bring the community together, all while showing support and encouragement of local downtown businesses.

The Spring Open House is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the downtown restaurants who will be offering a variety of specials throughout the four day event. Individual stores will also have door prizes available, along with the leprechaun scavenger hunt, store discounts and prizes.

Armfields will be taking part in the Open House by offering their own specials as well as doing a Relay for Life Easter Hunt. For the Easter Hunt, all a person would need to do is donate a dollar to Relay for Life and after they have found an Easter egg, they would receive the discount inside the egg on the item of your choice.

Some of the participants in this year’s Spring Open House include Out on a Whim, As Time Goes By, Prissy’s Antiques, Silverspoon Teamroom, Munson’s Music, Armfields, The Gallery and many more.

“We’ve had a lot of people come from Aiken, Greenwood, Lexington and Columbia. People come from all over, so we’re hoping for a good turn out,” said Ringer.

Downtown merchants will have special food and item discounts along with opportunities to win door prizes at the 2017 Spring Open House.
