NEWBERRY — Newberry County Memorial Hospital is continuing to make great strides in healthcare and wants to continue improving in inpatient and outpatient care as 2017 progresses.

NCMH saw a total of 179 discharges for December 2016, which is a minimal increase compared to the prior year’s total discharges of 167 and the budgeted number of 162 discharges.

Total discharges from year to date came in at 955 patients. This number is slightly over the budgeted number of 952 discharges. The financial report showed an increase from the prior year of 915 discharges to the actual number of discharges of 955.

For December, average length of patient stay brought in numbers of 3.6. The hospital was able to stay within their budgeted number of 3.8.

It was also reported that the prior year projected 3.8 in average length of stay. For its year to date numbers, NCMH was right on budget at 3.8. The prior year, it was slightly increased coming in at 3.9.

NCMH was also able to stay within budget on the number of outpatient visits received. In December, there was a total of 3,241 outpatient visits.

The prior year, the hospital saw an increase in outpatient visits bringing in a number of 3,814 outpatient visits. The budgeted number of outpatient visits for December 2016 was 3,759. The hospital was also able to stay within budget for year to date numbers of outpatient visits with a total of 20,685 visits compared to a budget of 23,010 visits.

ER visits and live births also showed positive numbers. The number of live births reported in 2016 went over its budget. In December, there were a reported number of 30 live births, of the 24 births budgeted.

In the prior year, there were 18 live births reported. ER visits almost met the budgeted number of 1,904, bringing in numbers of 1,891 visits. But the number of ER visits did increase to the prior year’s number of visits, which totaled at 1,846.

For inpatient and outpatient revenue, there was a total of $11,938,316. NCMH was able to stay within the budget of $12,523,068, which is a variance of $584,752. Total operating revenue, total operating expenses and net income or (loss) were also able to stay within their projected budget.

In total current assets, in December 2016, the hospital had a total of $37,288,982. The prior month, saw a similar number of $37,828,284, which is a variance of $539,301.

In other business:

• The Emergency Department’s Left Without Treatment was up 2.1 percent. Turnaround time also continued to decrease in the month of December.

• The Foundation’s Employee Campaign will take place the week of March 13-17.

• A lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 17 that the Board of Trustees is invited to attend.

• Plans are underway for the 2017 Doctor’s Day Celebration.

• A breakfast for physicians will be held at 7 a.m. March 30. The “Physician of the Year” award will be presented at 9 a.m.

• The 2017 Friends of the Foundation Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. April 21 at the Friends Building on Friend Street. Tickets are $50, $25 for board members. The theme is the 1970’s.

• The Volunteer Department is taking applications for the 2017 summer junior program.

• The $5 Jewelry Sale is scheduled for March 13 and March 14.

NCMH continues to be successful with inpatient and outpatient care and hopes to continue to provide the best care in 2017.
