NEWBERRY — Carlton Kinard, candidate for State Representative in House District 40, has received the endorsement and support of retiring Rep. Walt McLeod, who has represented Newberry County in the House of Representatives for 20 years.

“During the past several months and in particular, in recent weeks, many voters in Newberry County have asked me which candidate for the House will I be voting for on Nov. 8,” McLeod said.

He said his response has been that “I will be voting for Carlton Kinard, because he will be a very effective representative for Newberry County, putting constituent service first.”

“Carlton is the only candidate for the House with a proven record of leadership and the experience of working together at party lines, as shown by his service as an aide to Republican Congressman Joe Wilson and as an aide to Democratic Congressman Jim Clyburn,” McLeod said. “Carlton is a former student body president at Newberry College, and has served as a trustee of Newberry College and as collegiate president of the South Carolina Music Educators Association. He is certified as a public school teacher K-12 in music education, and is a trustee of his home church, New Enoree Baptist Church. I am pleased to be voting for Carlton Kinard as Newberry County’s next state representative.”
