NEWBERRY — Aubrey H. Horne was named 2016 Fireman of the Year by the Newberry Exchange Club during a dinner held Oct. 4 at the Newberry Fire Conference Center.

Horne, who has been a member of the St. Philips Fire Department for 40 years, currently serves as chief, a position he has held for more than 20 years.

He has the highest percentage for attendance in the department for meetings and fires. He helps with all functions at the department without question.

Horne is retired from the V.C. Summer Nuclear Plant where he worked for 40 years. He has served as president of the Firemen’s Association two times.

He is active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Pomaria, where he has helped organize rebuilding of the church towers and re-roofing of church.

He also helps Pomaria Fire and Rescue when needed and helps transport neighbors to the doctor when they need assistance.

Horne has been married to Dianne Ringer Horne for 46 years. They have two children and three grandchildren.

His son, Aubrey Horne II, has been a member of St. Philip’s Fire Department for over 25 years. His grandson will take a course at Piedmont Tech through Mid-Carolina High School to become a firefighter as well.
