NEWBERRY COUNTY —Three local residents have been awarded the Keith McMorris Memorial Scholarship, given in memory of Bryant Keith McMorris, who died suddenly in August 2013. The $300 scholarships were awarded to Benjamin Blackmon, who plans to attend Tennessee State; Octavia Grandy, who plans to attend Newberry College; and Jennie Jackson, who plans to attend USC-Aiken.

Funds were raised through the McMorris Family and the Bush River Baptist Church Family, along with donations from neighbors and friends around Newberry County.

McMorris was a strong supporter of student athletes at his alma mater, Newberry High School. The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize academic and athletic achievement, promote good sportsmanship, encourage high scholastic achievement and assist in a small way with the costs of higher education.
