Small crowds turned out today with the New Black Panthers at a Columbia press conference and for a vigil in Newberry.

The vigil was attended by a dozen people including three children and only one male New Black Panther member. However, over two dozen spectators gathered near Highway 34 to watch the 15 minute vigil.

The group was not allowed on the Orchard Park Trailer Park property but held the vigil in the ditch area on the opposite coroner from the mobile home community.

The vigil included prayer and candle lighting for murder victim Anthony Hill.

The press conference in front of the Columbia City Hall encouraged people to attend tomorrow's march from Wise Street to the Courthouse.

The gathering starts at 3 p.m. and the march begins at 5 p.m.

I am so sorry to hear about what happened to Mr. Hill....I am white, but this was inhumane..I think that the man responsible for Mr. Hill's death should be HUNG in the middle of Town in Newberry as soon as possible.....It doesn't matter if it was racist or not, NOONE should have been killed in the first place, but this was just pure evil to drag Mr. Hill behind a vehicle......My prayers are for his family and I pray that justice will prevail in this matter.

Newberry Finest...better known as "the good ole boys".... Welcome Black Panthers....let's make sure there is justice for Mr. Hill. We are sick and tired of the unfair treatment of African Americans...same crime...double time. Enough is enough. We do not want your hand out...just equal opportunity.. don't look at my skin and assume I want a hand out. We want to work and make our own but we are the last hired and the first fired...
