NEWBERRY — Despite freshman Noelle Allen scoring her 15th goal of the season, the Newberry College women’s lacrosse team was outdone by the No. 11 Lock Haven Lady Eagles 24-2 at Setzler Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Eagles (2-0) showed why they moved up in the rankings from 12 to 11 Tuesday morning as they jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes. Newberry (4-6) controlled the draw after Lock Haven’s 17th goal and drove toward goal. A quick pass from freshman Carly Marksberry to Allen resulted in Allen’s 15th goal of the year and was Marksberry’s 13th assist of the year.

Lock Haven rattled off seven more goals, before with 45 seconds remaining in the game, Newberry sophomore Megan Kenny netted her fourth score of the year.

Newberry junior Tricia Powell led the Wolves with two ground balls, while freshman Jessica Baxtrom controlled three draws.

The Wolves return to action on Tuesday when they play host to Young Harris at 5 p.m.
