POMARIA — In February, Pomaria-Garmany Elementary raised $2,042.82 for its Pennies for Patients campaign, exceeding the goal of $1,000.
The elementary school participated in the event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society from Feb. 4 through Feb. 22. Pennies for Patients is a service-learning project that involves school-aged children by teaching them about community and helping others by joining in the fight against blood cancers.
The top three classes with the highest totals were Amy Milstead’s fourth-grade class with a total of $243.16, Amy Russell’s fourth-grade class with a total of $201.36 and Mamie Shippy’s kindergarten class with a total of $195.48.
Katina Washington, Pennies for Patients school coordinator, thanked the community for its support and donations toward a life-saving cause.
