Rob Perron named head coach at Catawba

May 11, 2014

SALISBURY, N.C. — Newberry College men’s basketball will see a long-standing rivalry elevated next season as Rob Perron, the Wolves’ associate head coach was announced as the head coach at South Atlantic Conference foe Catawba College on Thursday.

Perron served Newberry as assistant coach for the 2012-13 season and was elevated to associate head coach for the 2013-14 season. The Wolves had a record of 33-22 in Perron’s tenure and were the No. 2 scoring offense in the nation in 2013-14.

“Rob Perron is the best and Catawba is extremely lucky to get him,” said Newberry head coach Dave Davis. “He was just like having another head coach at Newberry. He is a first class human being, a top notch coach and an outstanding recruiter. We wish him the best of luck for all but two or three nights a year!”

Prior to coming to Newberry, Perron had served as director of basketball operations at Charlotte, assistant coach for Davis at Pfeiffer and head coach at St. Andrews, where he is a 1996 graduate.

Perron is now Catawba’s twelfth all-time men’s basketball coach, but just the third since 1960. Jim Baker recently departed after 20 seasons as the head man in Salisbury, following in the footsteps of Sam Moir, who had been the head coach for 34 years.
