NEWBERRY — The Newberry County School Board recognized students and schools for academic and extracurricular excellence at its April meeting.
Assistant Superintendent Jim Suber received unanimous approval from the board for phase two of the career center project, including HVAC and ceiling work as well as door replacement. The district will retain the contractor it used for phase I of the career center project and continue with the work.
Suber said the punch-work list was approximately 85 percent complete on the new district office building on S.C. 219. There were weather-related delays to landscaping but otherwise the staff members were able to move in as planned over spring break.
Occupancy target for the new district office was March but weather-related delays pushed the move back a few weeks. Suber commended the workers for the amount of work that was done on the facility within the last month, work that kept the district on schedule to meet its goals.
Suber said exterior signs would follow the landscaping. The district did not want to risk damage to signage during the landscaping work.
The May 19 school board meeting will be held in the new District Office at 3419 Main Street.
