Wolves rated No. 23 in D2Football.com Poll

October 16, 2013

NEWBERRY — The Newberry Wolves have worked their way into the nation’s top 25 teams in both Division II polls, as the D2Football.com poll shows Newberry ranked 23rd nationally.

Newberry is rated 23rd in both national polls this week — the AFCA Coaches’ Poll and the D2Football.com Poll. The Wolves are 6-0 overall, marking the second time in school history the scarlet and gray have started the season with six consecutive wins.

Newberry is also at the top of the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 4-0 record. The Wolves are the only 6-0 team in Super Region II and one of only eight teams in all of Division II with six region wins in the season’s first six weeks.

The Wolves are the second South Atlantic Conference team in the poll this week, behind Carson-Newman in 20th. Next week’s opponent — UNC Pembroke — is ranked 13th.

Newberry heads the Hickory, N.C., this weekend in the annual Battle for the Bishops Trophy. The game against Lenoir-Rhyne (5-1, 3-0 SAC) is set for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
