Hello everyone. Welcome to Fall y’all! Local news from “The Whitty” as the young folks say. Gottrocks the Birthday Fairy has managed to text me your birthdays, so let’s do our wishes first.

Happy birthday to Cathy Broome, Carl Peay, Anderson Epps, Quentin Aughtry, Nina Grant, Martha Wilder, Junior Maness, Chase English, Donald Reeed, Phylis Raines, Gail J. Bowie, Jennie Yon G. Garner, Tracy Sligh Bostic, Tracy Arrowood, Jo-Ann Clark, Kevin Dunaway, Derrick Jennings and Tim “Timmy” Nates.

On a sad note, we send our best wishes and sympathies to the families of former Whitmire resident Margery “Patsy” Prince Seymore.

In upcoming community events, the 2013 TERA Fall concerts roll on with next Saturday’s concert at The Strand Amphitheater in Heritage Park. The Oct. 12 performer is Micheal Reno Harris. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with music time at 5 and 6 p.m. The concert series features several genres of music including bluegrass, blues, country and folk/Americana. This is a family event series with free food and free music. Bring a friend, your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy.

Table or booth space is available for $10 for the annual Main Street Yard Sale on Oct. 12. Contact The Whitmire Jaycees at or call 803-694-3797 or 803-694-9251.

The Whitmire Golf Association is hosting a Captain’s Choice Tournament Oct. 26 with a 9 a.m. tee time. The entry fee is $25. Oct. 26 is a busy day in the Whitty. Our annul Booster Club Halloween carnival will be in the city gym, Trunk or Treat on Main Street and The TERA Concert at Heritage Park, right behind Main Street at 4 p.m. featuring The MillBilly Blues Band From Union. All three events are family oriented events, close in proximity and walking distance in well lit areas.

Congratulations to Whitmire Community School’s Royal Regiment Band on their honors in the band competition in Soccastee.

Well, readers, Garabund the Deadline Fairy is in close proximity too. I am sneezing now because of the wing dust. Hope to see you here next week. Until then, send us your news bits and events to
